Nawasalkar - Indian Classical Vocalist Meera is the one of the promising artiste of young generation born in Traditional Music Gharana. Father Pt. Kishor Nawasalkar is a well known Tabla artist as well as a Musician and deciple of Padmavibhushan Late Pt. Mallikarjun Mansoor Saheb, and Late Pt. Rajabhau Nawasalkar.
Meera started taking ‘Talim’ from her father Pt. Kishor Nawasalkar and senior great vocalist Pandita Kumud Hirurkar.. Further she received guidance from great vocalist Alka Deo-Marulkar of Pune. Apart from the basic Jaipur style; as her father Pt. Kishor Nawasalkar had very close associations with Late Pt. Rajabhau Nawasalkar, Pt. Nivruttibuva Sarnaik, Pt.Wadikar Buva, Pt. Sangameshwar Buva Gurao and so many great artists, there has been a definite impact of all these style and conceptions and presentation in her vocal recital.
As a performer of pure “Gaikee” of Jaipur School, Meera shows natural “Phirat” of Taanas, and her fascination to sing “Anwat Raagas”. She has been awarded with “Abhinav kala Samman” and “Kal Ki Kalakar” of Jaipur gharana, from well known Abhinav Kala Parishad of Bhopal city of Madhya Pradesh in July 2001. She has been blessed by many eminent Gurus of Hindustani Classical field. She has also given performances at various Conferences and Mahefils held in various states of India.
