About me
Ranjani is at the forefront of young Hindustani classical vocalists
in the country. Endowed with a rich vibrant voice coupled with immense
dedication to her chosen vocation, Ranjani's performances have earned
her wide acclaim for powerful exposition with a highly melodic appeal.
Ranjani was initiated into Hindustani music at a young age by her
mother, Vijaya. Her formal training began under the tutelage of
Late Pt. Kashinath Shankar Bodas from Kanpur, followed by
Smt. Veena Sahasrabuddhe in Pune. In 2001 she was selected
as a resident scholar at the prestigious ITC Sangeet Research Academy
in Kolkata where she trained under the guidance of Pt. Ulhas
Kashalkar. While in SRA, Ranjani also received guidance from
Vidushi Girija Devi, acquiring a rich repertoire of Thumri, Dadra,
Chaiti and Kajri.
Ranjani has won many awards and fellowships, prominent among them
being the Central Government Scholarship for Hindustani Classical
Music, Govt. of India (1998-2000), the resident scholarship
of the ITC-Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata (2001-2006)
and the Surmani award from Sur Singar Samsad, Mumbai. She
is empanelled as a performing artiste for ICCR (Indian Council
for Cultural Relations) and is a graded artiste of All India
Radio since 2001. Ranjani has, to her credit, a commercial audio
CD produced by Sonic Octaves Pvt. Ltd.
A physics graduate, Ranjani was awarded the UGC Junior Research
fellowship in 2006 and is currently pursuing a PhD in music at the
University of Pune, while also teaching post-graduate students the
theory of music at the University of Pune.
Noteworthy past performances include the Vishnu Digambar Jayanti
Samaroha (New Delhi) , 31st Chandigarh Sangeet Sammelan ,ITC Sangeet
Sammelans (Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai), "Sangeet
Pratibha" of Sangeet Natak Academy, Nehru Centre(London), Learnquest
Academy(Boston), Dadar Matunga Cultural Centre, (Mumbai) and India
Habitat Centre.
