Clio
Karabelias -Western Classical Instrumentalist- Harpist While being in her final course of classical studies of Harp in Paris, Clio discovered free jazz improvisation with her teacher Helene Breschand. She used to improvise at home, on her instrument and with her voice, but never knew it is acceptable. The Revolution which started then drove her towards free jazz experiences, as well as towards the study of traditional music, through her own Greek tradition, as well as the Turkish one ( she learned Saz and singing for several years with Talip Ozkan in Paris). The musical journey took a big turn when she started interacting with Indian musicians. She felt especially attracted by the importance of improvisation in this music, and started learning more about Indian classical music. While she is experiencing how to play with her own touch this ancient instrument which has been played all over the world -in India and Africa too- and while interacting with oriental music new ways of playing, new sounds arise. Clio plays harp, sings her Greek roots, and enjoys to create music with others in an oriental or free jazz spirit.
